The Assessment and Estimate Process
01
Initial contact
The office collects basic information about the property, access, and the condition prompting the inquiry. In most cases the on-site visit is scheduled during that call. Missed calls are returned the same business day.
02
On-site assessment
The arborist examines the trees, the surrounding structures, and the access available for equipment, and explains the findings directly.
03
Written estimate
The estimate sets out the recommended work, the reasoning behind it, and the cost. It is issued electronically for review, approval, and payment.
04
Scheduling
A reminder is sent ahead of the service date, with notification when the crew is en route.
05
Execution and site clearance
Work begins with a crew briefing covering the plan, the hazards, and each person’s role. Our crews operate to ANSI Z133 safety standards, establish drop zones, protect adjacent structures and planting, and clear the work area before leaving the site.
06
Continuing care
Properties enrolled in a plant health care program receive scheduled treatment and monitoring across the season, with findings reported after each visit.
Why Choose Michael's Tree & Loader Service
Every job, from a single tree to a full lot, is assessed by an arborist before it is priced, scheduled with our own crews, and finished with the site cleared.

Advice that fits the tree
Where pruning or treatment solves the problem, that is what we recommend.
Equipment we own
We own our grapple trucks, bucket trucks, and heavy material handlers, which is what allows us to take on removals in narrow lots and close to structures that other contractors decline.
Our own crews
All work is carried out by our own crews. No subcontractors.
Free, electronic estimates
Estimates are free, usually booked during your first call, and issued electronically for approval and payment.
Safety and a cleared site
Our crews operate to ANSI Z133 safety standards, establish drop zones, protect adjacent structures and planting, and clear the work area before leaving the site.

Commercial property and portfolio managers
Recurring maintenance across multiple sites, storm response, and tree condition assessment supporting liability management.
Contractors and developers
Lot and land clearing, large tree removal, and debris hauling coordinated to a construction program, including sites where access or proximity to existing structures constrains the method.
Municipalities and public agencies
Right-of-way clearance and tree maintenance, with large-scale storm debris work through our Disaster Recovery division.
Working Across St. Louis City and County Jurisdictions
The St. Louis metropolitan area is administratively fragmented in a way that directly affects tree work. St. Louis City and St. Louis County are separate jurisdictions, and the county contains numerous incorporated municipalities, several of which maintain their own tree ordinances. Clayton, Webster Groves, and Kirkwood are among those with local requirements, and rules commonly differ for trees standing within the public right-of-way as opposed to wholly on private property.
The practical consequence is that identical work at two addresses a mile apart may carry different requirements. Applicable requirements are identified during the on-site assessment, before the proposal is issued, so that permitting is established at the outset rather than discovered mid-project.

“In fact, they set a new standard for the low number of service calls.”
“Over the five year span of the contract Michael's Tree & Loader did an excellent job. The contract had a penalty clause for missed service calls and not once during the five years did Michael's Tree & Loader exceed the threshold where a penalty was enforced. In fact, they set a new standard for the low number of service calls. Finally, Michael Potts is a very hands on owner and knowledgeable of tree removal methods and the federal requirements for storm debris removal. He is hard working, oftentimes climbing onto the equipment to ensure that the job gets done. Our experience with Michael's Tree & Loader has been very positive and I would highly recommend Michael's Tree & Loader for any type of storm or other tree related work. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Michael and his firm in the future.”Read full letter

“Your knowledge, honesty, and candor have proven most beneficial to me.”
“Finally, the FEMA forms have all been filled out and boxed up! The Mayor and Finance Director are pleased and I couldn't be happier. You and your company have hit another home run for us with the cleanup effort just as you did in 2003 with Hurricane Elvis. The only thing we plan to change in the future is to request more of your help, sooner. Thanks so much for your support. Your knowledge, honesty, and candor have proven most beneficial to me and helped make our department look like the professionals that you are. We look forward to a continuation of our excellent working and personal relationship. Thank you once again!”Read full letter

“I didn't even see a small stick or twig on the ground after they left.”
“I recently had 4 oak trees removed (3 were very large), by your company. I just wanted you to know that the crew that was involved were professional, meticulous, and even had a bit of humor. Things were explained to me and all my questions were answered. I am extremely happy and will recommend you to anyone. I didn't even see a small stick or twig on the ground after they left. I couldn't be more pleased and ‘almost’ didn't mind writing a check. Thank you.”Read full letter
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have an office in St. Louis?
Yes. Our St. Louis branch is at 13012 Gravois Rd, with local crews and equipment, open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Do you work in both St. Louis City and St. Louis County?
Yes. Coverage extends across the City and the County municipalities, though local ordinance requirements differ between jurisdictions and are identified during the assessment.
Can a large tree be removed from a narrow lot or a rear alley?
Yes. Access is assessed before the estimate is issued and the equipment and rigging are specified accordingly. Company-owned grapple trucks, bucket trucks, and heavy material handlers allow removals in confined positions and close to structures.
Is a permit required to remove a tree in St. Louis?
It depends on the municipality and on whether the tree stands within the public right-of-way. St. Louis City and several county municipalities, among them Clayton, Webster Groves, and Kirkwood, maintain their own tree ordinances. Applicable requirements are confirmed during the on-site assessment.
How quickly can crews respond after a storm?
Emergency work is prioritized during major weather events. Emergency Response is dispatched as soon as a crew can safely be put on the road, and other storm damage is scheduled ahead of routine work.
Is plant health care available in St. Louis?
Not at this time. Plant health care is currently provided from our Memphis branch.
Is there a charge for an estimate in St. Louis?
No. Assessments and estimates are provided at no cost throughout the service area.
How is the estimate delivered?
Electronically. The recommended work can be reviewed and approved by phone or computer, and questions can be directed to the office at any stage. No deposit is required; work is invoiced on completion.
What safety standards do your crews work to?
Our crews operate to ANSI Z133 safety standards. Every job begins with a crew briefing covering the plan, the hazards, and each person's role, and drop zones are established before work starts.
Is the company licensed and insured in St. Louis, Missouri?
Yes. Michael's Tree & Loader Service is fully licensed and insured and holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Assessments are performed by an ISA Certified Arborist.
